We have an extensive range of modern laboratory equipment, including a microscope, urine analyser, immunoassay analyser and two different blood analysers, which enable our veterinary team to perform many important tests right here in the clinic. This allows us to quickly identify what may be happening with your pet and, where appropriate, begin treatment without unnecessary delays.

Blood & Urine Testing.

Cytology.

Blood and urine tests give us a deeper understanding of what is happening inside your pet’s body. While a physical examination provides valuable information, some changes or underlying conditions can only be detected through diagnostic testing.

Testing can help us assess organ function, identify potential disease, monitor existing conditions and tailor treatment to your pet’s individual needs.

Many tests can be performed in-house during your pet’s consultation, allowing us to obtain results quickly and make timely treatment decisions. Blood testing may also be recommended before surgery to assess your pet’s overall health and identify any factors that may affect anaesthesia.

For more complex investigations, samples can be sent to our trusted network of veterinary pathologists for specialised analysis and expert interpretation.

Antibody titre testing is also available in-house with our immunoassay analyser. For more information, please visit our Vaccinations & Titre Testing page.

With in-house microscopy, our veterinary team can examine samples from your pet’s ears, skin and other areas right here in the clinic.

This allows us to quickly identify many common causes of irritation and infection, so that we can make informed treatment recommendations during your pet’s appointment. Where appropriate, medication can be started straight away, helping your pet feel more comfortable, sooner!

Microscopy can be useful for investigating a range of conditions, including:

  • Skin and ear infections

  • Ear swabs to identify yeast, bacteria and inflammatory cells

  • Skin scrapings and samples for parasite detection

  • Fine needle aspirates of lumps and masses

  • Cytology of skin lesions and wounds

  • Subcutaneous and other masses

  • Investigation of areas of redness, irritation, discharge or hair loss

  • Monitoring response to treatment and changes over time

When specialised testing is required, we work closely with trusted external laboratories to process samples and provide expert interpretation of results. Turnaround times will vary depending on the type of testing required. Our veterinary team will keep you informed throughout the process and discuss the results with you once they become available!
