As pet owners, we want the very best for our dogs and cats, and one of the most powerful things we can do is take a closer look at what we’re putting in their bowl every day!

Kibble is convenient, we get it, but it doesn’t have to be the whole meal!

We understand why kibble is popular, it’s convenient and easy to feed. However, adding a little fresh food can be a simple way to bring more variety, moisture and whole-food ingredients into your dog’s diet.

Consider adding nutritious food toppers such as gently cooked meat, fish, eggs, vegetables or bone broth, or gradually introducing a gently cooked or raw diet where appropriate.

Complete and balanced air-dried and freeze-dried foods can also be a convenient way to introduce more whole-food ingredients.

These can be used in several ways:

  • As a topper
Start by adding a small amount to your dog’s existing kibble. This can be an easy way to introduce new flavours and ingredients while keeping the convenience of dry food.

  • As a transition
For owners interested in moving towards a more biologically appropriate, fresh or raw style of feeding, an air-dried or freeze-dried complete diet can be a simple stepping stone.

  • As a complete diet
Many commercially available air-dried and freeze-dried foods are formulated to be nutritionally complete and balanced, so they can be fed as your dog’s main diet.

Even small additions can make mealtimes more interesting and provide different textures, flavours and nutrients.

If you’re interested in moving beyond an exclusively kibble-based diet, we’re happy to help you find an approach that is balanced, practical and suited to your individual dog.

Sometimes, small changes can make a big difference!

Benefits of feeding whole foods.

When we feed our pets what their biology intended; fresh, minimally processed, species-appropriate food, the results can be remarkable.

Pet owners who switch often report:

  • Shinier coats and healthier skin

  • Improved digestion and stools

  • Better weight management

  • Increased energy and vitality

  • Healthier teeth and gums

  • Reduced allergy symptoms

  • Greater overall wellbeing

How to Get Started.

Making the switch doesn’t have to be overwhelming. We’re here to help!

  • Start slow. Begin by adding a small amount of the new food alongside their usual diet. Increase the fresh food gradually over 7–14 days, or longer depending on how your pet responds.

  • Gut supplements can be great during this period to support the transition.

  • Commercially prepared cooked or diets are the easiest place to start! Look for products that are complete and balanced, so you don’t have to worry about nutritional gaps.

  • If you’d like to prepare your pet’s food yourself, or are interested in raw feeding, we’re here to help you formulate a plan that meets all their nutritional needs.
